Silver City

Want a little weekend escape? Want to visit a cute town in New Mexico? Well...head on over to Silver City next month and check out the town's “Taste of Downtown” or the Gila River Festival. Click here for more information about Taste of Downtown.

I spent my 49th birthday in Silver City and had a great time. The town is little but packed with a lot of upcoming festivals. September looks like it is going to keep you busy. If festivals are not your thing, the town has plenty of galleries, antique shops, second-hand stores, and other little shops to check out.

If you have time, trek up to the Gila Mountains and enjoy the peaks and the cool breezes.

Silver City is about 2 hours from Las Cruces via I-10/180. Well, you are at it...stop in and have breakfast at the Sunrise Kitchen in Deming, New Mexico before traveling north to Silver City.

Click here to check out Silver City's event page.

Single Date “Day” or “Night”

Are you single? Are you bored with just hanging out alone at home? Well...you don't have to do that. You can go out on a date with YOURSELF. What??

YES...a date with yourself is not only fun but also easy. No compromising, no fighting over where to go, no nothing but pure pleasure for you.

One easy date “day” or “night” is to visit a local coffee shop like Beck's Roasting House and Creamery in Las Cruces. The coffeehouse is at 130 N Mesquite St and offers both inside and outside dining. Click here to check out Beck's website.

Kick-off your date by ordering a Breakfast Sandwich - bacon, egg, cheese, avocado, and microgreens on sourdough. And then order Fruit and Yogurt Parfait - Greek Gods Honey Vanilla Yogurt, fresh fruit, and homemade granola.

And then order a Mocha - Frozen banana, oat milk, cold brew shot, raspberries, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder, or order your favorite coffee drink.

Before you leave, order a Steak Sandwich for later - Kale chimichurri and thinly sliced flank steak with arugula, roasted balsamic tomatoes, and lemon-tarragon butter on homemade ciabatta.

Beck's Roasting House and Creamery also has a coffee kiosk downtown on Main Street that is open during Saturday's Farmer's Market as well as on most weekdays.

If coffee is not your thing, enjoy a nice lunch at your favorite Mexican restaurant or another restaurant. Eat, drink, order dessert...and just enjoy yourself. If dinner is your thing, go to dinner and just enjoy some people-watching, some nice cocktails, and don't forget to end the evening with something you love like ice cream or a nightcap.

Even if you are dating someone or married, have a single date “day” or “night” and just enjoy yourself.

Taqueria Que Pasa

Recently opened and in a good spot on Valley Drive - this week's “Picnic Talks” is a quick place to have lunch and get your fill of salsa - Taqueria Que Pasa!

Taqueria Que Pasa is at 1660 S Valley Dr, Las Cruces – right in front of Walmart. The little eatery has a patio but no one was sitting on it the day I popped in. I must be honest...the service here is not really good. I was one of a few people waiting to be seated and the staff was busy on their phones, playing with the cash register, hanging around the door to the kitchen, etc. So...this instantly put a bad taste in my mouth.

With all that being said...the food is good, I had the taquitos plate and it was really tasty. But you can go to one of a dozen Mexican restaurants in this city and get the same dishes with better service.

Click here to check out Taqueria Que Pasa's website.

Click here to check out Taqueria Que Pasa's menu.

Now...the restaurant does have a bar but I only had lunch and I really can't judge the bar...yet!!

Taqueria Que Pasa is open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m., and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. till 12 a.m.

Si Senor

A nice patio, a misting machine, a fountain, and lots of cocktails - this week's “Picnic Talks” is the perfect place for summer – Si Senor!

Summer is here and you got to enjoy it outside on Si Senor's patio at 1551 E Amador Ave, Las Cruces, NM 8800. When you walk in, don't even greet the hostess – just ask for a table outside and enjoy the sun! LOL – nooo...please greet the hostess and then ask for a seat outside. Inside is also good. The indoor fountain is very pretty.

Si Senor is all New Mexican cuisine. You will find anything from simple taco dishes all the way to fancy shrimp cocktails. But my favorite part of the dining experience – the cocktails including 7, yes 7, different types of margaritas! Mmmm...you can also order beer, wine, soft drinks, traditional Mexican sodas, as well as water. Click here to check out Si Senor's cocktail menu.

Click here to check out Si Senor's website.

Santa Fe Grill Catering Company

This week's “Picnic Talks” is a "get it" while it is still in Circle K...Santa Fe Grill. The restaurant is a staple here in Las Cruces and the food is really good...messy but good. Some of the best food is messy!!

OK...here is the story on the grill and the recent Circle K purchase. Santa Fe Grill is a restaurant within the former Pic Quik Stores, now known as Circle K, since the recent buyout of the Pic Quik stores. Santa Fe Grill leases the space within the convenience stores and once the leases end...Santa Fe Grill may not be in the Circle K stores.

Sooo...with all of that said – you need to order the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and the Chorizo, Egg & Cheese Burrito. Those two items are to die for!! Santa Fe Grill also has plate lunches, daily specials, specialty burritos, and even quesadillas. Click here to check out Santa Fe Grill's menu.

Santa Fe Grill has over six locations here in Las Cruces as well as a location in Hatch, NM. The one I visit is at 2200 Missouri Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88001. The restaurant offers carryout only but you can also order for delivery via DoorDash.

Santa Fe Grill is open daily with times varying depending on location.

Rio Grande Theater

From vintage films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show to local performances, the Rio Grande Theater is your one-stop entertainment center in Las Cruces. For the last two weekends, I have attended two great movies I always wanted to see on the big screen - 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Both movies were EXCELLENT!!
